Sara Peternell, MNT

As one of the preeminent board certified holistic nutrition practitioners in the Denver-area focused on family nutrition, my emphasis is on fertility, pregnancy, post-partum and feeding growing children.

My undergraduate education is a Bachelor of Arts from Drake University. After ten fun years in the marketing world, I changed careers and pursued studies in the Master of Nutrition Therapy program at the Nutrition Therapy Institute. As a graduate of this renowned program, I became a Master Nutrition Therapist (MNT) and later became an instructor at the school, where I taught entry-level and advanced curriculum both in the classroom and online for five years. I have been a mentor and internship instructor for nutrition students in Denver as well as for those seeking guidance in their nutrition careers all around the country.

I am honored to have been offering personalized nutrition services to individuals, children, families, non-profits and corporations since 2005. I am a proud member of the National Association of Nutrition Professionals (NANP) and also serve as a member of the Holistic Nutrition Credentialing Board.  I received my board certification in December 2015.

My wellness philosophy is holistic and realistic; by developing and teaching education-based nutrition programs, I strive to change the way people view their bodies and encourage them to live healthier lives. My unique relationship-based approach to counseling focuses on the specific beliefs and skills necessary to making lasting changes.

In addition to having Hashimoto’s thyroid disease and Celiac disease, I have also suffered three miscarriages before becoming a mother to my two children. I have a personal understanding of what nutritional approaches best assist with fertility, pregnancy and the post-partum period. The nutritional wisdom I have accumulated is from my own journey, as well as acquired from my beloved clients.

I am a Colorado native and I love all the outdoors has to offer in this beautiful state! In addition to spending time with my husband, two great kids and my Golendoodle, Izzie, I love to practice yoga, hike, camp, ski, ride my bike, cook, entertain and travel!

I am currently serving as the Health and Wellness PTA committee leader for my kids' elementary school in the DPS district, helping to inspire more nutrition, movement and eco-minded practices and beliefs among kids and parents of all ages!

Sara Peternell, MNT instructs the following:
  • Raising Kids With Healthy Sugar Habits
  • Now that Halloween is behind us (but the candy probably isn't!), it's time to take a look at some tips and tricks for re-programming the healthiest SUGAR habits for your kids and family.

Sara Peternell, MNT, is a Board Certified Holistic Nutritionist, Speaker and Author and focuses her practice on family nutrition. She's a mom too - so this presentation is based on knowledge she shares with clients and uses in her own home.

We will discuss sugar and its role in health (or lack thereof), how to reign it all in, how to set healthy limits on sugar consumption, and how to still have a little bit of (natural) sweetness in your life.

Healthy, naturally-sweetened holiday recipes will be shared for you to take home and try with your own family.
